It’s not always easy to know what commentaries to use/trust. So, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite Book-By-Book Commentary Series that are accessible to lay (non-academic, everyday) people.
Each series (except for NT Wright’s) provides one book to summarize every book of the Bible. However, some are written more like a study guide than a regular commentary.
More advanced commentaries are helpful, but these intro ones are easier to read and provide insight into historical context/original languages and a summary of the book/passage. They will also show you how to apply what you are learning. So, they are a great starting point before you use a more technical resource. I regularly use several of these series in my study time.
