Our Story

Our Story

Elizabeth grew up surrounded by the gospel. Her mother, father, and grandparents were all dedicated Bible teachers and preachers, and she spent countless hours watching them open Scripture and bring it to life for others. But even in that spiritually rich environment, Elizabeth wrestled with one persistent question: How does any of this connect to everyday life?

It wasn't until after college, in the unlikely setting of a Sunday School classroom, that God began to answer that question. Through the simple act of teaching others, Elizabeth discovered that all of Scripture points to something beautiful — the abundant life we were made to experience in God. That wholeness, that deep peace the Bible calls shalom, is God's good design for the world, and it's what we find when we follow the way of Jesus.

That revelation changed everything, making Elizabeth want others to experience the same breakthrough. So she enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary, deepened her study of Scripture and theology, and served on staff at her local church leading discipleship ministry. Over more than a decade of writing curriculum, teaching, and training others, she became convinced that biblical literacy is one of the most transformative gifts we can offer believers.

In 2022, Elizabeth launched The Woodson Institute to carry forward the legacy of Christian education and discipleship that had so profoundly shaped her own life — and to share what she had learned with believers far beyond her local church.

The Woodson Institute exists to make discipleship more accessible. It offers a curated collection of resources and training experiences designed to deepen believers' understanding of Scripture, theology, spiritual formation, and the rich history of the global faith community. The Institute is also deeply committed to elevating the voices of men and women of color, because a true picture of the kingdom of God reflects its full ethnic and cultural diversity.

At its heart, the Woodson Institute is a community — of writers, disciplemakers, creatives, teachers, and theologians — united by one simple mission: to equip believers to understand and grow in their Christian faith.

THE APOSTLE'S CREED

Doctrinal Beliefs

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; on the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the one holy church both visible and invisible, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
