Our Founder

ELIZABETH WOODSON

Elizabeth Woodson is the founder of The Woodson Institute, where she helps believers understand and grow in their Christian faith. She’s passionate about making discipleship and theology practical—bridging the gap between what we believe and how we live. With over a decade of experience in vocational church ministry, she has led discipleship efforts through teaching, training leaders, and developing resources that help people grow spiritually. Whether she's teaching, writing, or walking alongside others, Elizabeth is committed to helping people build a faith that lasts.

Elizabeth is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Christian Education and the author of several books including: Embrace Your Life: How To Find Joy When The Life You Have Is Not The Life You Hoped For,  From Beginning To Forever: A Study of the Grand Narrative of Scripture, and Live Free: A Study on Galatians

She is also the host of the podcast Starting Place, where she helps believers grow deeper in their faith through practical biblical teaching and honest conversations with pastors, theologians, and everyday disciplemakers.

THE APOSTLE'S CREED

Our Beliefs

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; on the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the one holy church both visible and invisible, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Story

Elizabeth grew up in a family of dedicated bible teachers and preachers, including her mother, father, and grandparents. Immersed in this spiritually rich environment, she spent countless hours watching her family teach and educate others about Christianity. However, despite this upbringing, Elizabeth struggled with one question: How does the gospel connect with my daily life?

After graduating from college, God used an experience as a Sunday School teacher to answer that question for Elizabeth. She learned how all of Scripture points to the abundant life we find in God. This wholeness and peace (shalom) is God's good design for the world and what we experience and cultivate by following the way of Jesus.

Elizabeth recognized the transformative power of biblical literacy and wanted to share it with others. She attended Dallas Theological Seminary and led discipleship ministry while on staff at her local church, gaining the knowledge and expertise needed to assist believers in understanding and growing in their Christian faith.

In 2022, Elizabeth launched The Woodson Institute to continue the legacy of Christian education and discipleship that has indelibly shaped her life. After writing curriculum, teaching, and training others in her local church for over a decade, Elizabeth formed The Woodson Insititute to share what she had learned with believers all across the globe.

The Woodson Institute aims to make discipleship more accessible by providing a curated collection of resources and training experiences. Our work focuses on deepening believers' understanding of Scripture, theology, spiritual formation, and the history of our global faith community. We also seek to elevate the voices of men and women of color so that our understanding of the way of Jesus reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of the kingdom of God.

Ultimately, the Woodson Institute desires to be a community of writers, disciplemakers, creatives, teachers, and theologians who come together for one simple mission – to equip believers to understand and grow in their Christian faith.
