THE WOODSON INSTITUTE
Our Story
Elizabeth comes from a family of bible teachers and preachers, men and women who dedicated themselves to discipleship and Christian education. Growing up, Elizabeth spent many years watching her mother and father teach Sunday School and her grandmother write and teach Bible studies. Yet, while she grew up in this spiritually rich environment, for a long time, Elizabeth found herself searching for the answer to one question – How does the truth of the gospel connect with my everyday life?
After graduating from college, God used an experience as a Sunday School teacher to answer that question for Elizabeth. But it also sparked a deep desire to help others answer it for themselves.
Seeing the transforming power of biblical literacy, Elizabeth embarked on a journey to get trained for ministry. For the next decade, Elizabeth would attend seminary and lead discipleship ministry while on staff in her local church. These opportunities allowed her to be trained in the classroom and the community, gaining the knowledge and expertise she needed to help believers understand and grow in the Christian faith.
In 2022, Elizabeth launched The Woodson Institute to continue the legacy of Christian education and discipleship that has indelibly shaped her life. After years of teaching, writing, and equipping in her local church, Elizabeth wanted to create an organization to share what she had learned with believers all across the globe.
Through a curated collection of resources and training experiences, The Woodson Institute wants to make discipleship accessible by helping believers think deeply about Scripture, theology, spiritual formation, and the history of our global faith community. We also seek to elevate the voices of authors of color so that our understanding of the way of Jesus reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of the kingdom of God.
Ultimately, the Woodson Institute desires to be a community of writers, disciplemakers, creatives, bible teachers, and theologians who come together for one simple mission – to equip believers to understand and grow in their Christian faith.
THE APOSTLE'S CREED
What We Believe
“We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; on the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the one holy church both visible and invisible, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
